Hiring For the Summer
Canada Summer Jobs wage subsidies are for organizations with 50 or fewer full-time employees, to create quality summer work experiences for young people aged 15 to 30 years.
Co-op Hire Incentive Program (CHIP-In) is available for any types of businesses, this is a wage subsidy grant of $2500 to hire an Alberta School of Business Co-op Student from May-August for a minimum of 280 hours (full-time roles are preferred, but part-time roles may be considered). Roles must help students build their professional skills and you must be able to provide mentorship and supervision.
Career Focus Get up to 80% of your costs covered when you hire 8 or more young people (18-30). Eligible Career Focus activities must help the youth gain employment experience and skills related to their field of studies or career goals. Aimed mostly at non-profits, and government organizations, for-profit businesses can still take part if the activities the youth are to work in is considered “non-commercial”, not intended to generate profit
Hiring for help with Technology:
TECHCareers is a program for unemployed Albertans to train them into Software Developers. TECHCareers is a government funded program, so there are no fees to access the services. The University of Alberta, facilitates the occupational training component of the program where, upon completion, the students will obtain a University of Alberta Certificate in Software Development as Full Stack Developers. The students have skills and competencies in a variety of languages and frameworks such as HTML/CSS, C#, ASP.NET, MySQL, PHP, JavaScript, REACT Native, etc. They are looking for employers to take on graduated students as Interns to get work experience. Access a student for 4-8 weeks at various times throughout the year to help with website development, app development or other tech needs.

50% of the student’s salary, up to $5,000; or
70% of the student’s salary, up to $7,000, if the student falls within one of the following under-represented groups: Women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), Indigenous students, recent immigrants, students with disabilities, and first-year students.
Youth Employment Program provides financial assistance to hire a student or young graduate to work on a business, technical, or technology-related projects to help you:
o advance research and development, engineering and multimedia activities
o develop new products and processes
o conduct market analyses for new technology-based products
o support business development related to science and technology activities
o improve customer services
TECTERRA Geomatics Technology Program wage subsidies, loans, and grant programs for businesses working in geospatial technology products (data)

Industry R&D Associates Get up to $74,500 per year for up to two years to employ an in-house professional research and development person to make that last leap from research to a marketable product.
Mitacs Accelerate Solve your research challenges with academic expertise, leveraged funding, and one-to-one support from Mitacs. Internships start at four months and can scale up as much as you need — your financial contribution starts at $7,500.
Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada Partner with a research team from a university or college to help you achieve business goals, solve problems and get results. Projects can range from three months to several years and involve either in-kind or financial support from your business. Contact

Rupertsland Institute Employment Partnership- Up to 50% of wages covered for Metis workers who have the accreditation but not the work experience to find meaningful work.

Housing Internship Initiative for First Nations and Inuit Youth If your business is in the housing industry this program provides on-the-job training for First Nation and Inuit youth along with a wage subsidy. Available for “youths” between the ages of 15 and 30.

Graduate Student Internship Program - University of Alberta provides funding for employers to hire a graduate student to solve a staffing or business need. Employers in all sectors can participate, including private, public and not-for-profit. You can receive 50 cents on every dollar you can put towards a student's salary (Up to $8,000)
Acadium In exchange for your coaching and guidance, Acadium apprentice’s help you with your projects, unpaid, as part of their training. Your business pays $299 per credit which is good for a 3 month volunteer.

Hiring Someone Bilingual:
Young Canada Works offers Internships in Canada to staff positions in official-language minority community media (radios and newspapers).
International internships to staff positions mainly related to the language industry.
Young Canada Works in Both Official Languages hire a bilingual summer student.
Hiring an Apprentice:
Apprenticeship Job Creation Tax Credit if you are interested in hiring an apprentice within the first two years of their program get up to $2000 per year per apprentice.
Hiring for Science, Engineering, Math and Natural Resources:
College and Institutes Canada Clean Tech Internship Employers can hire an intern for 6-12 months in a full-time position related to the use or development of clean tech, and CICan will contribute up to 70% of the intern’s salary, to a maximum of $15,000.
Youth Employment Placement Program If your business works in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) or Natural Resources, you could be eligible to receive funding for full-time environmental job placements and skills training.Currently there are two streams of funding for 6-12 month positions: Youth Employment in Natural Resources and Science Horizons Youth Internship Program.
Mitacs Career Connect is a wage subsidy program that supports six-month placements for organizations interested in hiring recent post-secondary graduates for jobs that protect the environment, create positive environmental outcomes, or address an environmental or climate change-related challenge.
Science and Technology Internship Program get an intern from the science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields in the natural resources sectors: energy, forestry and mining, earth sciences, and clean technology.

Certificates of Origin
A Certificate of Origin is a document that identifies the origin of goods being exported. It is required by customs officials as one of the key bases for applying tariff rates. We offer this service to Chamber members and non-member St. Albert businesses. Canada Alberta Job Grant The Canada-Alberta Job Grant helps cover training expenses for existing employees and new hires. If you are hiring and training an unemployed Albertan, up to 100% of training costs could be covered, up to $15,000 per trainee. Changes to the program include:
- Eligible trainee now includes employed family members of eligible employers.
- Business owners (incorporated, unincorporated/sole-proprietor and partnerships) with 4 or fewer employees, including all owners, are now eligible to train themselves.
- Training is no longer required to be incremental.
Workplace Training provides individual-focused training or work experience to enable individuals to find and maintain employment. Employers can be reimbursed up to 70% of training costs up to $390/ week for up to 30 weeks.
Rupertsland Institute Free group training if you’re planning on hiring 10 or more Metis individuals. Offerings can be customized to suit the business, but typical training provided in the past would be on safety or administration duties.
Careers Next Gen Youth Internship Incentive Program Youth Internship Incentive Program is designed to increase the number of employers supporting work-integrated learning internships in the trades and technologies. Funding options are $1000 for 125 hours to $3600 for 480 hours.
WCB Return to Work Training on the Job This program is designed to help employers bring a new employee into a position. As part of the TOJ program, we will reimburse a percentage of the salary you pay your new employee while they learn the new job.
